세계 최대 전자쇼인 ‘2014 CES(Consumer Electronics Show)’가 2014년1월7일 (현지시간) 미국 라스베이거스에서 나흘 일정으로 화려한 막을 올렸다.센디에이고를 거점으로 북미 제품디자인개발 전문가그룹으로 참관을 하게 되었다. 미국가전협회(CEA)에 따르면 올해 CES에는 역대 가장 많은 3천200여개 기업이 전 세계에서 참가해 최대 규모로 첨단 기술을 선보였다. 우리나라에서는 이번 행사에 삼성전자와 LG전자 외에 기아자동차와 모뉴엘, 잘만테크, 유진로봇 등 40여개 중견·중소기업들이 참가했다. 올해 CES는 ‘울트라HD(UHD)’, ‘플렉서블(flexible)’, ‘웨어러블(wearable)’, ‘스마트(smart)’가 첨단 기술 트렌드로 부각된 전시회였다. 기술의 이면에는 제품디자인의 영역을 하나의 TREND로 숙지하고 익히는 기회로 다가왔다.
The world’s largest electronics show, ‘2014 CES (Consumer Electronics Show)’, raised its curtain for a four-day event on January 7, 2014 (local time) in Las Vegas, USA. We attended as a North American product design development expert group based in San Diego. According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), this year’s CES had the largest participation in history, with over 3,200 companies from around the world showcasing cutting-edge technology. From Korea, about 40 mid-sized and small companies, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Kia Motors, Moneual, ZalmanTech, and Yujin Robot, participated in this event. This year’s CES highlighted ‘Ultra HD (UHD)’, ‘Flexible’, ‘Wearable’, and ‘Smart’ as the leading technology trends. It provided an opportunity to understand and familiarize oneself with the field of product design as a major trend.

It is common for professional product design companies to attend global electronics shows. Exhibitions serve as markets for design development companies. They provide a glimpse into various specialized technologies and the direction of future technologies, making them ideal for companies engaged in design development to understand the direction and trends of design. We attended as a North American product design development expert group based in San Diego. The world’s largest electronics show, ‘2014 CES (Consumer Electronics Show)’, showcased cutting-edge technology on a grand scale during a four-day event starting on January 7, 2014 (local time) in Las Vegas, USA. Advanced venture companies and platform companies in the US displayed various technologies preparing for the future of the fourth industrial revolution. Technologies related to device connectivity and operation, including mmWave, were exhibited. From Korea, about 40 mid-sized and small companies, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Kia Motors, Moneual, ZalmanTech, and Yujin Robot, participated in this event. The technological trends of ‘Ultra HD (UHD)’, ‘Flexible’, ‘Wearable’, and ‘Smart’ were applied to product design, bringing advanced technology closer to everyday life. Our daily lives are changing at a rapid pace. As a product design specialist dreaming of growth, I envision representing the progressive nature of revolutionary technology that permeates the daily lives of humans, both directly and indirectly.
